Specimens with Spontaneous Clots: Preparation Continued

  1. Slide the mass off the end of the sticks and place it into an appropriately labeled cassette (see Figure 4). If the mass does not hold together well it should be wrapped in lens paper. If the clot is large, submit a representative portion (there is no diagnostic advantage to submitting multiple cassettes of the same thing).

     

  2. Place the cassette in fixative and submit for processing as tissue.
